How much does a microcement project cost in Florida?

There is no single price per square foot. Cost is driven by substrate condition and preparation, total area, project complexity, the Topcret system specified, the finish and sealer selected, site access and schedule. A small bathroom and an open 3,000 sq ft floor are priced very differently even at the same rate per square foot. We quote each project after reviewing the actual conditions.

Can microcement be installed over existing tile?

Yes, in most cases. Tiles must be clean, degreased and fully bonded; loose tiles are removed and voids filled. Deep grout joints usually require a leveling layer first so they do not telegraph through the finish. Installing over existing tile avoids demolition, dust and disposal.

Humidity, salt air, sun exposure and pool decks — Florida is demanding on surfaces in ways most of the country is not.

Coastal properties face salt-laden air and constant moisture. Ground-floor slabs across the state deal with rising damp. Exteriors take direct UV and sudden heavy rain. Each of these changes what should be specified: the primer, the number of layers, the waterproofing beneath the system and — critically — the protective sealer on top.

The same finish specified for an interior hallway in Jacksonville and a pool deck in Key West is not the same specification. We scope every project for how the surface will actually be used, not for how it looks in a catalog.

Where microcement works.

Microcement is installed in thin layers — roughly 1/8 inch total — over an existing, properly prepared substrate. No demolition, no joints, no grout lines. That makes it viable in spaces where tearing out the existing surface would be impractical.

FloorsContinuous floors across living areas, hallways and open plans — over concrete, tile, terrazzo or prepared plywood, with no expansion joints breaking up the surface.

Showers & bathroomsSeamless wet areas with no grout to clean or discolor. Approved waterproofing membranes are mandatory beneath the system, and the sealer is specified for constant water exposure.

What drives the price of a microcement project.

There is no honest single price per square foot for microcement — and anyone quoting one before seeing the space is guessing.

What actually determines cost:

Substrate condition. The single biggest variable. A sound, level, dry slab is straightforward. Cracked concrete, loose tile, uneven planes, moisture issues or plywood that needs stabilizing all add preparation work before a single layer of microcement goes down. Substrate preparation is where most projects are won or lost.

Area and layout. Square footage matters, but so does shape. One open 2,000 sq ft floor costs less per foot than five small bathrooms totaling the same area — edges, corners and transitions are where the labor goes.

System and finish. Baxab®Eco for heavy traffic, EcoCemento® for a more textured look, Real Metals® or Clay® for specific effects — each has a different material and labor profile.

Exposure and waterproofing. Wet areas and exteriors require membranes and specific sealers that interior dry areas do not.

Access and schedule. High-rise access, occupied properties, restricted work hours and compressed timelines all affect cost.

We quote after reviewing the actual conditions — square footage, substrate, exposure and finish. That is the only way to give a number that will still be true when the job is done.
