What New Jersey projects require.

Microcement is installed in thin layers — roughly 1/8 inch total — over an existing, properly prepared substrate. In New Jersey, most of the work happens before that first layer.

Basements & lower levelsThe most common New Jersey request and the most demanding. Moisture readings, vapor pressure and drainage are assessed before any system is specified.
Radiant floor heatingMicrocement works over hydronic and electric radiant systems when the slab is properly cured and the heating cycle is managed during installation.
Larger open plansSuburban homes often mean large continuous floors — an advantage for a jointless surface, but one that demands correct substrate leveling across the full run.
Jersey Shore propertiesSalt air, sand and seasonal use call for sealers specified for coastal exposure and surfaces that tolerate being left unoccupied.
Patios & pool decksExteriors face freeze-thaw. Drainage slopes must be functional and waterproofing membranes are mandatory before microcement is installed.

Cost

What drives the price of a microcement project.

There is no honest single price per square foot for microcement — and anyone quoting one before seeing the space is guessing.

Substrate condition. The single biggest variable, and in New Jersey it usually comes down to moisture. Basements and ground-floor slabs need testing and, frequently, preparation work that a dry upper-floor installation would not. Substrate preparation is where most projects are won or lost.

Area and layout. Square footage matters, but so does shape. One open 2,000 sq ft floor costs less per foot than five small bathrooms totaling the same area — edges, corners and transitions are where the labor goes.

System and finish. Baxab®Eco for heavy traffic, EcoCemento® for a more textured look, Real Metals® or Clay® for specific effects — each has a different material and labor profile.

Exposure and waterproofing. Wet areas and exteriors require membranes and specific sealers that interior dry areas do not.

Access and schedule. Occupied homes, high-rise buildings in Hoboken and Jersey City, seasonal scheduling at the shore and compressed timelines all affect cost.

We quote after reviewing the actual conditions — square footage, substrate, exposure and finish. That is the only way to give a number that will still be true when the job is done.

Common questions.

Can it go in a basement?Yes, but moisture decides. Slabs are tested to recognized U.S. standards first, and a vapor barrier is mandatory on every ground-floor application. Where rising moisture reaches the substrate, adhesion loss or bubbling can occur.
Does it work over radiant heating?Yes, over hydronic and electric systems, provided the slab is cured and the heating cycle is managed during installation and curing.
Is it suitable for the Jersey Shore?Yes, with coastal specification. Salt air and sand are abrasive, and the sealer is selected for that exposure.
Can it go over an existing patio?Yes, when the surface is sound and drainage works. Freeze-thaw makes correct drainage and waterproofing essential.
