New Jersey projects tend to be larger and more varied than city apartments — full floors, basements, patios and shore properties. That range is exactly where a specified system beats a one-size-fits-all approach.
Moisture & climate
If there is one condition that defines New Jersey projects, it is moisture — and it comes from below as often as from above.
Ground-floor slabs and basements across the state deal with rising damp and vapor pressure that can compromise any surface finish months after installation. Shore properties face salt air and storm exposure. Patios, driveways and pool surrounds go through freeze-thaw cycles every winter.
Substrate moisture is measured before anything is specified. Where rising moisture or vapor pressure is present, a vapor barrier is a technical decision that has to be made consciously — see our Substrate Preparation Guide.
New Jersey considerations
Microcement is installed in thin layers — roughly 1/8 inch total — over an existing, properly prepared substrate. In New Jersey, most of the work happens before that first layer.

Cost
There is no honest single price per square foot for microcement — and anyone quoting one before seeing the space is guessing.
Substrate condition. The single biggest variable, and in New Jersey it usually comes down to moisture. Basements and ground-floor slabs need testing and, frequently, preparation work that a dry upper-floor installation would not. Substrate preparation is where most projects are won or lost.
Area and layout. Square footage matters, but so does shape. One open 2,000 sq ft floor costs less per foot than five small bathrooms totaling the same area — edges, corners and transitions are where the labor goes.
System and finish. Baxab®Eco for heavy traffic, EcoCemento® for a more textured look, Real Metals® or Clay® for specific effects — each has a different material and labor profile.
Exposure and waterproofing. Wet areas and exteriors require membranes and specific sealers that interior dry areas do not.
Access and schedule. Occupied homes, high-rise buildings in Hoboken and Jersey City, seasonal scheduling at the shore and compressed timelines all affect cost.
We quote after reviewing the actual conditions — square footage, substrate, exposure and finish. That is the only way to give a number that will still be true when the job is done.
